Event introduction

Background

Reducing plastic consumption has gradually become a global trend in the consumer product industry. More manufacturers are now considering using natural materials as alternatives in food contact articles to offer consumers an environmentally friendly option to choose products made from renewable materials rather than conventional plastic materials.

These products are often found to be labelled as "bamboo-fibre products", "eco-friendly", and similar items. In fact, majority of these products are plastic articles made of melamine resin in which considerable amounts of bamboo fibres are incorporated as a filling material. Food contact safety and regulatory compliance of bamboo melamine plastics are under concerns in the European markets.

This webinar would provide you with an overview of the European food contact materials legislation as well as the latest update to the EU food contact plastic material regulation. To understand the concerns of the materials, this webinar would cover the potential health hazards of using bamboo melamine plastics and the recent European authorities' actions regarding the material.
